My Ironman had a 38mm diameter case, the GWM530A is about 46mm. This watch is about a centimeter thick - don't expect to slide this under fitted dress-shirt cuffs. This is the largest watch I own, and probably the largest I can pull off without looking ridiculous. For comparison, my daily dress watch is a 42mm automatic on a NATO strap. The case is chunky, dense. I like the aesthetic and the three mini-indicator circles. Not quite as retro as some of the other G-Shock watches. Two slightly-recessed buttons per side that sit just below the edge of the case. I really like that they're recessed by about 1mm - it avoids accidental button-presses, which was a problem I had with my Timex whenever I extended my wrist. There are 6 atomic clock signals across the world that this will sync with. These clocks are accurate to within 1 second every million years. So, you know, probably good enough for whatever you're doing. There's one in China, two in Japan, one in Germany, one in the UK. As long as you're within 1500km (about 900 miles) from the European or Asian clocks, or within 3000km (about 1900 miles) from the US clock, it should sync. I get L3 if I position it just right. You can either set the time manually or have it automatically fetch from the atomic clock. You can also manually fetch the atomic time (like, when you first get the watch). It will automatically poll the atomic clock up to 5 times at night, until its successful. The scheduled times for N. America are between 12am and 5am.

With the solar and atomic sync, I don't have to worry about adjusting the time or changing batteries. I really don't use the other features except maybe the stopwatch or countdown timer, but they're there if I need them. The buttons are a little small for my fat fingers, but still functional. The display dials are also kind of hard to read, but I had to compromise because I was looking for a smaller watch size than many of the other G-shocks. I wish the back light stayed on longer and was a little brighter, but it's adequate. Overall it's a great watch, and excellent for well under a hundred bucks. Just be sure to keep it exposed to light as often as possible (indoor lighting will work, but direct sunlight better). Automatically powers off at night, display goes blank until exposed to light. Great energy saver. Easy to program, it came with a manual (tiny print) that explained everything thoroughly. Band is very comfortable for my medium sized wrists. Numbers are easy to read, larger than my other Casio watches, good background contrast. The alarm is very soft, if you need this to wake you in the morning, you will be late for work:-) Other than that, perfect. Love this watch!

Lots of reviews indicate people have issues with syncing, but Casio is very clear about why syncing works better in some circumstances than others. All I can recommend is that, if you're having trouble, you systematically go through the steps in the manual. In addition, there's an autoEL mode where, when it's dark, the gesture of moving the watch face from level to tilted by 40 degrees (basically, the gesture of tilting your wrist to see the face) will turn on the backlight. This is a very intuitive and useful feature. Because of the atomic clock function, it automatically deals with leap year as well as daylight savings time (which you can also manually override). First step when you get the watch is to specify your home time zone. Also recall that the time syncs to atomic clocks between midnight and 5am. That means if the set time is way off when you get the watch, it won't sync (it will poll the atomic clock at the wrong times of day, when signal is weakest). That means you may have to manually set the time when you first get the watch, just to get it to poll the atomic clock correctly. Left circular indicator is a seconds indicator with 10 segments. The circle counts up 10 seconds then counts down 10 seconds. So it's a relatively easy way to visually divide a minute in multiples of 10 or 20 seconds. That being said, I don't use this indicator much. World Time Mode - great feature. With one button press, you can switch to world time mode. The right 2 buttons move you from timezone to timezone. Up is westward, down is eastward. The alarm isn't super loud - don't count on this to wake you from a deep sleep. Stopwatch mode - standard stopwatch with start, stop, split, restart, and clear. You can't set a timer for less than a minute, in case that's an important feature you need. SUMMARY: This is my first G-Shock. I think it's at the sweet spot for size at 46mm diameter - totally useable as a daily beater, not too flashy, looks dressy enough for work.

One thing to note is the band is very specific to this family of Casio G-Shocks. I doubt an aftermarket band would work at all so you're stuck with locating and paying for a Casio replacement band - don't expect any old band will work ( although there is a similar G-Shock MTGM900DA with a metal link strap, so maybe that would be an option if available ). So, if you have bad eyesight you might want to go for one the similar models with a grey background ( GWM530A-1, perhaps? ), but at the sale price I'm happy about my purchase. Edit: Amazon seems to have updated this listing with a model with a blue-ish colored display background. Not sure how this affects the readability but likely it is similar to the yellow background model I received. Also my watch seems to be always on H-igh charge if I leave it on a window sill - no real issue with keeping a charge.This watch feels really comfortable on the wrist and isn't too big like other watches. I like all the things it can do. I couldn't manually set it to the atomic clock when I got it but I left it on my window sill and it updated in the night. I read that the Colorado atomic watch broadcasts at like 1 bit a second so I figure you would have to hold it still for a couple minutes for it to update. Honestly even if it updates a couple times a week it is still extremely accurate. I haven't had any issues on the nightly updates though. Watch has good protection for the glass and I really enjoy the top left hand circle which fills up every 10 seconds. Great for checking pulses. Also has a feature where you can set it so the back-light turns on when check your watch. The battery life seems great so far. It takes a while to get it fully charged but it doesn't seem to drain fast either. Battery is supposed to last 9 months. Not a bad idea to put it in direct sunlight the first day or so.

I wear it with dress clothes (business casual obviously) and it looks fine with it. If you're looking for a great watch that is ALWAYS on time, go with this one. Every night at midnight the watch receives it's signal from Colorado. If it can't receive it at midnight, it will try again at 0100, then 0200, then 0300, so on and so forth until it gets it. The digital display is clear and easy to read, and as a pilot it's useful for me to easily view the Zulu - or UTC for you ground-pounders - time. Really great for copying down when you're taking off or landing (if you're a pilot)- if not it's still helpful to view other time zones. GET. THIS. WATCH!! You'll be very happy.So far so good, it's hard not to love this watch, both design and functionality are marvelous.It promptly went one sale for even less a few days later so I bought a second and returned the first one. So, watch (.pun ) for price drops on Amazon before buying. The colour of watch itself is not like the picture at all - all the plastic is black including the rim around the face ( not grey ), and the display background is quite yellow. The yellow-ish background can make the display hard to read in lower light conditions. As for function everything works as described. Radio synch works most nights ( Western Quebec ) as long as I leave it on a windowsill and orient as described in the manual. Unlike some other WaveCeptor watches I own, the level of reception is shown while it updates ( L1-L2-L3 ). The small mode dials on the face are not that useful, and can be hard to read but you don't really need to look at them very often. If you need reading glasses, you'll need them to see the dials. There is a nice feature where you can display another world time at the bottom of the main display in place of the month-day-day of the week. Auto.el lighting works as long as you get the motion down pat as described in the manual. Power saving works like other Casio Tough Solars and shuts the display down at night.

The watch sets itself from the atomic clock signal, but to the WRONG TIME. It goes 1 hour ahead. I'm not interested in resetting the watch daily. I'm guessing it might have something to do with daylight savings time (which is not in my time zone). Also, the 3 bright silver round dials are completely useless and just get in the way of the time display.
